Strathmore Road Community Hub
At Strathmore Road we have a long history of engaging with our local community with a range of activities which make full use of the wonderful facilities we have on site.
Monday mornings see many of these activities coming together with a range of services open to everyone in our community.
A ‘pay as you feel’ cafe is open from 9am and serves hot drinks, pastries, cakes and toast as well as sausage and bacon sandwiches from Strothers Farm in High Spen.
The popular Rescued Food Market is now in its 4th year and provides a range of surplus food from local supermarkets and Fareshare. Visitors receive a large bag of groceries in return for a donation. The selection varies from week to week but always includes fresh fruit and vegetables,
bakery items, canned and frozen food.
Citizens Advice are on site every Monday with a drop in service giving advice on a wide range of issues including help with debt, energy bills, housing and benefits.
A community mental health peer support team are on site 3 times a month to provide a listening ear and professional input to visitors and users of our other activities. Visitors can self refer and have an informal chat with trained staff who can also refer to other support services.
All of the above are supported by Gateshead Council through their Warm Spaces initiative and Household Support fund.
