Having your child Christened?

We offer 2 services to parents who would like to have their child Christened at Strathmore Road Methodist Church, infant baptism and a thanksgiving service.

Infant Baptism

Infant Baptism is the traditional practice of the Methodist people in welcoming children into the life of the Church. Baptism is a sign of God’s grace and love for us. Before we choose to love God he has already declared his love for us through the life of Jesus laid down for us. In this service the parents and congregation affirm their faith and make promises to bring up the child in the Christian Faith.

Baptism marks a new relationship with the church and the church promises its’ support to the family and the child being baptized.

Thanksgiving

Some parents feel, on reflection, that a service of Baptism is not the most appropriate service for them and their child. The service of Thanksgiving or Dedication is an opportunity to give thanks for the birth of a child and to recognise that the family has been blessed.

Our usual practice is to include Baptism and Thanksgiving within our 10.45 am Sunday worship.

What next?

If you would like to have a Baptism or Thanksgiving service for your child, or would like an opportunity to talk more about which service will suit you, then please contact our minister, Alan.
